TIMELINE

  • Parents AND their student sign a contract before the work begins. This ensures that everyone is on board and understands the parameters of the work and the nature of the working relationships between parents, counselor, and student.

  • After the contract is signed and before the work begins, we will have a meeting to discuss what YOU hope for your student to gain from their college experience. This includes conversations about budget, distance, academic goals, and personal goals.

  • There are monthly parent meetings on Zoom for those who want to talk about what is going on with their students and hear great tips and ideas. Parents find those sessions both helpful and reassuring.

  • Sessions begin in May of a student's junior year and conclude November 15 or earlier, depending on when the final application has been submitted.

  • The student works with their College Journey counselor to conduct research and eventually generate a list of 10 potential colleges/programs for application. Ultimately, we want a balanced list of "reach," "match," and "confident" admission schools.

  • While we build the college application list with the student (keeping in mind the financial, geographic, and other parameters set by you during the finance meeting) we hold things pretty close to the vest. Your student will be empowered to share their college list and any progress with you when they want to do so. This relieves stress and worry at home and allows you to enjoy your student during their final precious months at home before leaving for college.

  • The student and counselor work on all of the admissions materials together, including essays.

  • The counselor helps gather all required documents to make sure that those documents are reaching the right people/offices.

TOGETHER, we learn to ignore the college admissions insanity and the gossip/buzz that goes around at school, on social media, and in the community!

TOGETHER, we keep the student's mental health intact and their happiness at a maximum!

"[She] got accepted to U of A. I can't believe it . . . . And all thanks to you." - Parent of graduating senior, Class of '24

"You are amazing." - Parent of graduating senior, Class of '23

“Martha has developed a wonderful relationship with my daughter. They read books together to work on analysis, talk through math and science problems, and pour over The Fiske Guide  and discuss colleges. Martha has given excellent advice about what to look for on college visits, and how to find colleges that fit my daughter’s individual needs and desires, not just what everyone else is doing. She continually demonstrates genuine interest in my daughter as a person and talks her through high school frustrations and gets excited about her accomplishments.

In terms of dealing with her as a consultant, she is outstanding. Always provides me a summary of the sessions she holds with my daughter, very prompt with invoices, and good at explaining anddiscussing fees. Overall, she is very professional in a calm and reassuring way.

I feel very thankful to have Martha in our lives, particularly for the support and guidance she gives my daughter to make her high school testing and college search experience a positive one.

I happily give Martha my highest possible recommendation!”

Reading & Writing Summer Support

Build vocabulary, improve reading skills, and lift up writing skills

Package Price: $1500 (all-inclusive)

This is an 8-session program that takes place over the course of 10 weeks in the summer with a schedule customized to fit your travel and vacation plans.

Ms. Martha works one : one with your student to help them develop key vocabulary, reading, and writing skills through a summer book project. Students select from a list of options that appeal to diverse readers (even self-proclaimed "non-readers"). Each session includes direct instruction, critical analysis, vocabulary strategies, prompts for student responses and connections to academic work in school. Students also develop organizational skills by initiating an arts integrated project of their choice (menu of options provided just in case) and presenting it at the end of the summer.

Level Up: Launch!

Summer Prep for College Start

Package Price: $1500 (all inclusive)

Congratulations! Your student is going to college!

With the college application out of the way, it may seem like you've crossed the finish line, and you have.

However, you're also at a brand new STARTING line. About 25% of students do not return to their chosen college after freshman year. Some of them transfer, some go back home, and some enter the workforce. Quite often, the struggles of freshman year have been too overwhelming or disappointing to keep going.

It doesn't have to be this way. To help maximize your student's success during freshman year, we offer Level Up: Launch! This is an 8 session program where your rising college freshman receives individualized coaching in the areas that most commonly lead to frustration or failure during the first year after high school graduation:

  • Time & Calendar Management

  • Executive Functioning Skills (What are they? How do I use them?)

  • Self-advocacy (communicating with professors and more)

  • Reading and following a college level syllabus & submitting work

  • Getting involved and building community

  • Real advice from real college students

These sessions take place over the summer with a schedule that flexibly responds to your vacation, work, and internship plans.
